Why use a CMS?

Long gone are the heady days of being able to create and publish a couple of HTML pages to launch your website.  Now it's all about content.

That's why it's so important to use a good Content Management System to, you've got it, manage your content.  It's possible for anyone with only a little IT savvy to be able to maintain a content rich website, whether it's a simple blog, news and information pages or a full e-commerce site. With a CMS, the possibilities are limited only by our imaginations.

In this world guided by Google and other search engines, search engine optimisation (SEO) is critical if you want people to find your site. Using a CMS makes SEO a piece of Google pie chart.

Why not 'off the shelf?'

There are plenty of online companies providing 'off the shelf' website designs with or without hosting for a one-off or monthly fee. Why not use one of these?  Why not indeed. It's certainly an inexpensive way of creating yourself a website that will look professional but at what real cost?

Flexibility and control are the obvious losers if you go with an off the shelf package, not to mention the time and effort you will need to put in yourself.

Never underestimate how long it takes to get the right look even when you have the right content and that's without thinking about functionality.

If you want a truly individual website that meets all of your requirements, you need to go with a custom-built solution.

Always avoid getting tied in to a joint design and hosting solution as this way only leads to frustration if want to try something a little more interesting down the line.

Worried that you won't be able to maintain the site? Do you use Facebook or other social media?  Well, updating pages on a Drupal website is almost as easy.

Still not sure? Get in touch and I'll be more than happy to chat about it with you.
